Abstract
Abul Kalam Azad, also known as Mohiuddin Ahmad bin Khairuddin, was an Indian politician, Islamic scholar, and Qur'anic exegete of Arab descent. He was born in Makkah in 1888 and was raised in Madinah. His father was from India, while his mother belonged to Madinah, which enabled him to become familiar with both Arab and Indian cultures.
Sheikh Azad was a prominent political and religious leader who successfully combined religion with politics. He devoted himself to the study and interpretation of the Holy Qur'an and was deeply influenced by renowned scholars such as Sheikh Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, Sheikh Muhammad Abduh, and Sheikh Rashid Rida.
He played a significant role in India's struggle for independence from British rule. In addition to his political contributions, he was an outstanding orator and a distinguished writer. He founded and edited the influential journals Al-Hilal and Al-Balagh, through which he promoted intellectual, religious, and political awareness.
